Inflation examines the physical and psychological sensations of expansion, pressure, and swelling volume. Grounded in the intuitive ethos of Process Painting—approaching the canvas from a place of "not knowing" without preparatory sketches—Esther Ritz allows shapes to push outward from within, testing the spatial boundaries of the 36 × 36 inch square format. The composition comes alive through curving, ballooning biomorphic masses that surge with palpable kinetic pressure. Counterbalancing this sense of outward fullness are Ritz’s signature pointillist dot constellations—meticulously applied marks that define contours, establish vibrational surface tension, and anchor the swelling forms in steady equilibrium.
